Daniel and Kim Fortune — founders of Dream Building Consultants. Our work helping California families through the Self-Determination Program is built on three decades of combined experience in education, counseling, and ministry — and on the lived experience of raising three children of our own.

Our story:
two backgrounds, one purpose.

Daniel and Kim Fortune are the proud parents of three wonderful children — twin boys who are 18 and a 12-year-old daughter. Their passion for advocacy is rooted in both family life and over 30 years of combined experience in education, counseling, and ministry.

We first learned about the Self-Determination Program (SDP) through the brother of someone who was already participating in the program. The more we learned, the more we saw how it allowed families and Regional Center clients to have real choice — to build services and supports that actually fit their lives.

Because of our backgrounds in education, counseling, and advocacy within the school system, we already had experience supporting individuals and navigating complex systems. As we continued studying SDP — how Person-Centered Plans are developed, how budgets are built, how families transition into the program — more people began reaching out for guidance.

Today, we work as Independent Facilitators full-time, helping Regional Center clients understand the Self-Determination Program and develop plans that reflect their vision for the future.
